Varady of the University of Illinois in Chicago has found that fasting can indeed help obese people to lose weight. In fact, the fasting to lose weight methodology employed could even lower high blood pressure and also "LDL" or bad cholesterol level. Although the method employed in the study is rare, the study has found that on average, a person is able to lose 12 pounds of weight within 2 months period. The weight loss obtained range from 7 pounds to about 30 pounds. That is indeed a lot of weight loss during such a short time span.
About The Fasting To Lose Weight Methodology
The fasting to lose weight method is a program that involves fasting on the alternate days. The dieter would eat normally during a two-week controlled period. After the two weeks, dieter would undergo an alternate eating day that is, the dieter would eat however much he or she wants on a day and go on fasting the next day. On the fasting day that is, the alternate day, dieter is only allowed to eat a quarter of the calories needed to maintain body weight.
Suprisingly as most people have thought that dieters would tend to overeat on their non-fasting day to compensate for their calories deprived fasting day but the research has proved otherwise. The study has found that the dieters only ate between 100 percent to 125 percent of their daily calories requirement on their all-you-can-eat days. The entire fasting program would go on for a consecutive 8 weeks time.
Effectiveness Of This Fasting Program
Although the method has proved effective for weight loss over a short period of time, the study however, does not know exactly how effective this program can be when followed over a longer period of time. Nevertheless, if you find this fasting program interesting and want to give it a try, it is recommended that you should consult your physician, doctor or even dietitian first to see whether this fasting to lose weight program is suitable for you.
